/ Wirral MP calls for Parliamentary debate on the introduction of integrated health and social care

Margaret Greenwood MP has called on the government to ensure MPs are given the opportunity to debate the way in which health and social care are integrated at local level.
The Wirral MP raised the matter in Oral Questions to the Department of Health and Social Care in Parliament.
Margaret Greenwood MP said:
“I am very concerned that Integrated Care Systems are just a rebranded version of the highly controversial Accountable Care Organisations and Accountable Care Systems, also referred to as place-based care.
“There are currently two judicial reviews challenging the government’s introduction of ACOs and ACSs and one of these is being supported by Professor Stephen Hawking.
“There are real concerns that the government is using the integration of health and social care at local level to undermine the principles of our National Health Service.
“I am concerned these new approaches may lead to the introduction of private insurance-based healthcare.
“Our NHS is immensely important to all of us. It’s vital we protect it from privatisation.”
